The Yahnikurm Desert was a vast and barren expanse of dunes south of Gaia at the center of the hawk-shaped north-eastern continent. In the middle of the great desert was the Mirage Tower, the work of the ancient Sky People. It served as the gateway to the Flying Fortress, but could only be entered by use of a magical Chime from the secluded village of Lufenia. The Warriors of Light traversed its sands on their quest to defeat Tiamat, the Fiend of Wind, who had taken up roost in the spire of the Flying Fortress.

GAME INFO
The Mirage Tower is located at the center of the Yahnikurm Desert. The only way to enter the desert is to land the Airship at one of the patches of grass around its perimeter, close to Lufenia or at the very south of the desert close to the Sea.

NAME ORIGIN
The origin of the word "Yahnikurm" is unknown. If you have any information, please feel free to email the Webmaster. A desert is a region so arid because of little rainfall that it supports only sparse and widespread vegetation or no vegetation at all. The word comes from the Late Latin word deserere meaning "to abandon".
In Final Fantasy Origins, the Yahnikurm Desert was mistranslated as Yanikulum Desert.
