NAME ORIGIN
The Tantalus Theatre Troupe originally appeared in Final Fantasy IX as the team of thieves masquerading as actors that the main character, Zidane Tribal, belongs to at the beginning of the game. Tantalus was a character from Greek mythology. He was a wicked Phrygian king, and son of Zeus, who was condemned to remain in Tartarus, chin deep in water, with fruit-laden branches hanging above his head. Whenever he tried to drink or eat, the water and fruit receded out of reach. The name Tantalus is the origin of the word "tantalize", meaning something desirable that is just out of reach. A theatre troupe is a company, band, or group of singers, actors or other performers that travel about.
