FINAL FANTASY I :: CHARACTERS

PRONUNCIATION: smith
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: スミス
NES NAME: Smith
ORIGINS NAME: Smyth
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Smyth
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Smyth

    Smyth was a Dwarven blacksmith living in the caves of Mount Duergar. He was searching for the legendary metal Adamantite in order to create a truly powerful sword. The Warriors of Light recovered a slab of Adamantite while battling through the Flying Fortress and brought it to Smyth who forged the mythical blade Excalibur. He considered it his greatest creation and gratefully bestowed it to the heroes so that they could continue their journey to defeat the Four Fiends.
    Following the Warriors of Light's defeat of Chaos, Smyth and the Dwarves of Mount Duergar met with the Elf Prince and citizens of Elfheim.

GAME INFO
    Smyth is found at the top of Mount Duergar in his own room. After the Warriors of Light acquire the Adamantite, Smyth will forge the Excalibur, one of the most powerful swords in the game.

NAME ORIGIN
    Smyth is an alternate spelling of smith. A smith is a metalworker, especially one who works metal when it is hot and malleable. The word is often used in combination with the material being worked with, such as silversmith, goldsmith or blacksmith. The word comes from the Old English smið meaning "one who works in metal".
