The Sky People were the once powerful ancestors of the Lufenian race living in the secluded village of Lufenia. After mastering the power of the Wind Crystal, they constructed many ancient wonders such as the Airship, Automatons, the Chime, the Mirage Tower and the Flying Fortress. They would pass on their memories from generation to generation through mystic rituals. Their civilization was destroyed four hundred years before the coming of the Warriors of Light by the Fiend of Wind, Tiamat. She took up residence in the Flying Fortress, draining the power of the Wind Crystal. In an attempt to defeat Tiamat, the Sky People sent their five strongest warriors to ascertain the entity controlling the Four Fiends, but they were turned to Bats by the dark magic of the Fiends and confined to the Chaos Shrine.

GAME INFO
The Sky People are gone by the time of the events of Final Fantasy, but their legacy is felt through the artifacts they left behind and the Lufenian people.

NAME ORIGIN
The sky is the region of the clouds in the upper atmosphere of the earth. The word comes from the Old English word scéo meaning "cloud". People are human beings in a collective group. The word comes from the Latin word populus.
In the original NES release, the Sky People were known as the Sky Warriors. A warrior is someone who fights and participates in war. The word itself comes from the Old Northern French word werreier, meaning "to make war".
