NAME ORIGIN
In Hindu and Buddhist mythology, a rakshasa is a demon or unrighteous spirit that pose as shapechangers, illusionists and magicians. They are said to have been particularly wicked humans in previous incarnations. Rakshasa are also monsters in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game where they are tiger-headed wizards, which the original Final Fantasy draws its inspiration.
In the original NES release, this enemy was named Mancat. This is a reverse of the NES name for the Weretiger, Catman.
