NAME ORIGIN
Purple Worms are enemies from the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game where they are huge monsters that lurke beneath the surface. Purple is a color having components of both red and blue. The word comes from the Greek word porphura meaning "shellfish yielding purple dye". A worm is a long, soft, legless invertebrate. The word comes from the Old English wyrm, meaning "dragon, serpent, worm".
In the original NES release of Final Fantasy, this enemy's name was simply Worm.
