NAME ORIGIN
A piranha is a small South American freshwater fish of the genus Serrasalmus that eats other fish and sometimes plants but occasionally attack humans and other large animals that enter their waters. They are voraciously carnivorous and often attack in large groups. The word comes from the Tupi language of Brazil, where pira nya means "scissors".
In the original NES release, this enemy's name was Caribe. Caribe is another name for piranha and means "cannibal" in Spanish, derived from the Carib tride of northeastern South America.
