The Palamecian Desert was a vast sea of sand that surrounded the mountains of Palamecia. It ranged from the hills just south of Kashuan down past the spires of Castle Palamecia. Firion, Maria, Guy and Prince Gordon crossed the Desert on their way to the Coliseum where Princess Hilda of Fynn was being held prisoner by the evil Emperor Mateus. They slew the Emperor's pet Behemoth, but then fell victim to Mateus' treachery and were imprisoned. With the help of the infamous thief, Paul, they managed to escape with the Princess and return to Altair.

GAME INFO
The Palamecia Desert is accessible from the north by Kashuan, from the south by traveling upwards from the Dreadnought's landing site north of Fynn, and from the west and northeast by the Sea.

NAME ORIGIN
The name Palamecia may derive from Palatium, one of the Seven Hills of Rome. It is the centermost of the seven hills and was the location of the palaces of the Roman emperors. The ultimate origin of the name may be Pales, the name of an Italic goddess of shepherds and cattle. A desert is a region so arid because of little rainfall that it supports only sparse and widespread vegetation or no vegetation at all. The word comes from the Late Latin word deserere meaning "to abandon".
