NAME ORIGIN
The name of this puzzle comes from the number of tiles that must be placed in numerical order. Fifteen is a cardinal number, ten plus five. The word comes from the Old English fiftyne, where fif comes from five and tyne means "ten more than". A puzzle is a toy or problem designed to amuse by presenting difficulties to be solved by ingenuity or patient effort. The word was first used around 1595 as pusle.
