NAME ORIGIN
A mantis is a predatory insect of the order Mantidae, usually pale green and having two pairs of walking legs and powerful grasping forelimbs held in an upraised position as if in prayer. The name comes from the Greek mántis meaning "prophet, seer" due to its prayer-like stance. Devil, in this sense, is another word for demon. The word "devil" originally comes from diabolos, a Greek word meaning "slanderer".
