NAME ORIGIN
Land is a specific area of ground. The word comes from the Old English lond meaning "ground, soil". A ray is a fish of the order Rajiformes or Batoidei, adapted for life on the sea bottom, having a flattened body, enlarged pectoral fins and gills on its underside. The word comes from the Latin word raia.
In Final Fantasy Origins, this enemy was named Sand Ray. Sand is the fine debris of rocks, consisting of small, loose grains, often of quartz. The word comes from the Greek word psammos.
