NAME ORIGIN
Demons and devils are commonly depicted with large horns growing out of their skulls. The word horned comes from the Greek word kéras, meaning "horn". Devil comes from the Greek word diabolos meaning "slanderer".
In the original NES release, this enemy was named R. Goyle, an abbreviation of Red Gargoyle. The red represents this enemy's connection with the fire element. A gargoyle is a water spout in the form of a grotesque creature projecting from a gutter to carry rainwater clear of the wall, or any ornamental figure common in architecture. The word comes from the French gargouille meaning "throat, waterspout".
