PRONUNCIATION: fohr feends
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: 4ひきのカオス
NES NAME: Four Fiends of Elements
ORIGINS NAME: Four Fiends of Chaos
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Four Fiends
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Four Fiends

The Four Fiends were a group of four horrific creatures bent on controlling the power of the elemental Crystals and ruling the world in both the past and present. When the Warriors of Light defeated the evil knight Garland, he was drawn back in time two thousand years by the Fiends and they were sent to the future. In the present, the Fiends drained the Crystals, generating the power to send Garland into the past creating an unending time loop.
Tiamat, the Fiend of Wind, first appeared four hundred years before the Warriors of Light arrived and destroyed the civilization of the Lufenians. She drained the power of the Wind Crystal and caused the winds to die out around the world.
The Kraken, the Fiend of Water, appeared two hundred years later and sunk the ancient Shrine in Onrac. He imprisoned the Mermaids and robbed the power of the Water Crystal, causing the seas to become stagnant.
The Lich, the Fiend of Earth, then appeared shortly before the Warriors of Light and began draining the Earth Crystal, bringing rot and decay to the land.
After the Warriors of Light defeated the Lich, the Fiend of Fire, Marilith, awakened in the depths of Mount Gulg two hundred years earlier than planned and proceeded to drain the Fire Crystal of its power, causing fires to rage out of control.
The Warriors of Light defeated the Four Fiends, but not before they could send their power into the past. In the past, Garland harnessed the power of the Crystals and became Chaos, the ultimate embodiment of evil. The Warriors traveled back in time and fought Chaos in an epic showdown, destroying the time loop and restoring peace to the world.
