NAME ORIGIN
Elixir comes from the elixir vitae, meaning "elixir of life", a substance believed to maintain life indefinitely. The goal of alchemy was to create this special mixture, which was also believed to be able to transmute base metals into gold and was also known as the philosopher's stone. The word elixir comes from the Arabic word al-iksir meaning "powder for drying wounds".
