The Elves were a peaceful race that resided in the small kingdom of Elfheim. The sages of Elfheim were said to have an uncanny ability to foretell accurate prophecies. They were ruled by the benevolent Elf King. The Elf King and his descendents were trusted with the Mystic Key by the royal family of Cornelia, to keep until the legendary Warriors of Light arrived in Elfheim.
Five years before the Warriors of Light appeared in Cornelia, Astos and his band of Dark Elves attacked Elfheim. They sacked the Elven Castle and placed a curse on the young Elf Prince, sending him into a deep slumber. The evil Dark Elf hoped to use the Crystal Eye he had stolen from the witch Matoya and the Crown from the Marsh Cave to annoint himself the new Elf King. He tricked the Warriors of Light into bringing him the Crown, and then attacked the heroes, however he was soundly defeated in battle. The Warriors returned Matoya's Crystal Eye, for which she brewed a Jolt Tonic in return to awaken the cursed Prince. The Prince thanked the Warriors by handing over the Mystic Key, allowing them to continue on their quest to restore the Crystals.

NAME ORIGIN
Elves are mythical creatures found in Northern European folklore. Most depictions are of small, sprite-like creatures with magical powers. However, some interpretations, such as J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, depict Elves as human-like magical beings. The word comes from the Old English ælf.
