PRONUNCIATION: urth KRIS-tl
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: Unknown
NES NAME: Earth Orb
ORIGINS NAME: Earth Crystal
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Earth Crystal
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Earth Crystal

The Earth Crystal was a golden-hued crystal located at the lowest point of the Cavern of Earth. This crystal was responsible for preserving the vitality of the earth. Its power was focused at the Altar of Earth. The Fiend of Earth, the Lich, began to drain its power, causing the lands around the Cavern to rot and decay. The Warriors of Light destroyed the Lich, restoring the light to the Earth Crystal and allowing the land to flourish once again.

GAME INFO
The Earth Crystal is found on B5 of the Cavern of Earth.

NAME ORIGIN
Earth is the name given to soil and dirt, the dry surface matter of our planet. It is one of the four classical elements present in the old world mythologies. The word comes from the Old English word eorthe. A crystal is a clear, transparent mineral or glass resembling ice. The word comes from the Greek word krustallos meaning "ice".
All of the Crystals were called Orbs in the original NES release of Final Fantasy, thus the Earth Crystal was named the Earth Orb. An orb is a spherical object. The word comes from the Latin word orbis meaning "circle, disk, orbit".
