NAME ORIGIN
A diamond is a crystalline form of carbon, renowned for its hardness and used as a gemstone and as a cutting tool. The word comes from the Latin word adamas, which is also the root of the word "adamant". Gloves are pieces of clothing used to cover the fingers and hands. The word comes from the Old English word glof meaning "covering for the hand".
In the original NES release, the Diamond Gloves were called Opal Gloves. Opal is a milky-white mineral used as a precious gemstone. The word comes from the Sanskrit upala-s meaning "precious stone".
