NAME ORIGIN
A desert is an arid region that receives little to no rainfall. The word comes from the Latin word deserere. Baretta is an alternate translation of the Japanese name for this monster, Bulette. A bulette is a creature from the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game where it is a monster resembling a shark that lives on land.
In the original NES release, this enemy was named Ankylo. Ankylo is a shortening of Ankylosaurus, an herbivorous dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period with a hard, armored body and famous for its clubbed tail. Ankylosaurus means "crooked lizard" in Greek.
