Deist Cavern was the home of the mighty Wyverns, the dragon mounts of the noble Dragoons, on the island of Deist. Located at the northern end of the small island, it was here that the Wyverns hatched their Eggs in the Life Spring in the Cavern's lowest reaches. However, the evil Emperor Mateus, fearing the power of the Dragoons, sent his agents to poison the drinking water of the Wyverns. One by one, the Wyverns succumbed to the poison until only one last dragon remained. Elina, husband of the late Dragoon Phillip, and her young son, Kain, remained behind in Castle Deist to care for the ailing Wyvern until help arrived.
The King of Fynn requested Firion, Maria and Guy to travel to Deist and try to find any remnants of the Dragoons to help them in their fight against the Empire. They arrived on the island, along with the newly recruited Leila, and entered Castle Deist. Elina beseeched the heroes to help the wounded Wyvern, however, she could not speak the Wyvern's language and asked the heroes to recover a Dragoon's Pendant from Deist Cavern to the north. With the Pendant, one could decipher the language of the Wyverns. Firion and his allies recovered a Pendant from the corpse of a fallen dragoon in the Cavern and brought it back to Castle Deist. The ailing Wyvern revealed the last hope for his race, an unhatched Wyvern Egg, which the dying dragon asked the heroes to submerge in the Life Spring.
Firion and his allies battled through the Cavern until they reached the Life Spring. However, a pack of monstrous Chimeras blocked their path. The heroes slew the beasts and submerged the Wyvern Egg in the warm waters of the Life Spring. They left Deist Cavern and returned to Castle Deist, but sadly, the ailing Wyvern had perished.
Later, after reclaiming Castle Fynn for the Wild Rose Rebellion, the heroes entered the Castle's Mirror Chamber at the suggestion of Princess Hilda. In years past, the kingdom of Fynn would summon Wyverns to its aid by holding a Pendant to the flawless reflection of the mirror. Firion held up the Pendant they recovered from Deist Cavern and the image of the Wyvern Egg appeared. The shell cracked and a newborn baby Wyvern emerged and soared through the skies from Deist Cavern all the way to Castle Fynn to assist the heroes in their battle against the Palamecian Empire.
