One of the Mermaids in the Sunken Shrine remarks about her friend who left and grew legs.

NAME ORIGIN
Darryl is a reference to the 1984 movie Splash starring Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks. Daryl Hannah plays a mermaid who sprouts legs and journeys on land to find Tom Hanks' character. She is only named in the original NES release. The name "Darryl" comes from the Norman surname D'Airelle denoting a person who came from the town of Airelle in France.
