FINAL FANTASY I :: ITEMS :: KEY ITEMS

PRONUNCIATION: kroun
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: クラウン
NES NAME: CROWN
ORIGINS NAME: Crown
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Crown
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Crown

The Crown was a magical piece of jewelry that belonged to the king of the Western Keep. However, some time in the past, the Crown was stolen by a band of Piscodemons who hid out in the Marsh Cave, while the Western Keep was taken over by Astos the Dark Elf and fell into ruin. Only the Crown could restore the Keep to its former glory. However, Astos planned to use the Crown and Matoya's Crystal Eye to take over Elfheim and proclaim himself as Elf King. To accomplish this, he posed as the lowly king of the Western Keep and tricked the Warriors of Light into retrieving the Crown from the Marsh Cave. After bringing the Crown back, Astos turned on the Warriors and attacked, but his plans were foiled and he was defeated in battle.
The heroes later used the magical Crown to gain access to the Citadel of Trials where they would prove their bravery to the Dragon King, Bahamut.

GAME INFO
The Crown is guarded by a group of Piscodemons on the bottom floor of the Marsh Cave. It is required to enter the Citadel of Trials, although it is impossible to reach this location without first acquiring the Crown long before.

NAME ORIGIN
A crown is a decorative, ornamental piece of headwear worn by a monarch as a symbol of sovereignty. The word comes from the Latin word corona meaning "wreath" or "garland".
