FINAL FANTASY I :: LOCATIONS

PRONUNCIATION: KAIR-uh-van
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: キャラバン
NES NAME: OASIS
ORIGINS NAME: Desert Caravan
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Caravan
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Caravan

    The Caravan was a traveling shop that sold its wares at an oasis in the northern part of the desert west of Onrac. The Caravan was lead by a man named Underhill. A Pirate in the town of Gaia captured the Faerie and sold it to Underhill, who kept the Bottled Faerie on sale for a steep price. The Warriors of Light purchased the Faerie and set her free.

GAME INFO
    The Bottled Faerie must be purchased from the Caravan so that she can retrieve Oxyale from the bottom of the lake in Gaia, allowing the Warriors of Light to take the Submarine to the Sunken Shrine.
    After selling the Bottled Faerie, the Caravan puts several rare power-up items on sale which can only be purchased there.

NAME ORIGIN
    A caravan is a group of travelers, as merchants or pilgrims, journeying together for safety in passing through deserts or other hostile territory. The word comes from the Persian word karvan.
    In the original NES release, the Caravan was known as the Oasis. An oasis is a small, fertile area in a desert region. The word comes from the Coptic word ouahe meaning "dwelling place".
