FINAL FANTASY II :: TRANSPORTATION

PRONUNCIATION: kuh-NOO
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: カヌー
ORIGINS NAME: Canoe
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Canoe
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Canoe

    The Canoe was a small boat that could cross lakes and rivers. It belonged to Minwu, the White Wizard of Fynn. He gave it to Firion when he accompanied the heroes to Salamand in their attempt to find the source of the legendary metal Mythril for Princess Hilda and the Wild Rose Rebellion. They used it to cross the large lake east of Altair.

GAME INFO
    The Canoe is given to Firion and his friend by Minwu after Princess Hilda requests that they journey to Salamand to meet with Josef and find the source of Mythril.
    The Canoe can travel through rivers and lakes, but not into the open Sea. There are no enemy encounters while traveling in the Canoe.

NAME ORIGIN
    A canoe is a small, slender open boat which tapers to a point on both ends. It is commonly propelled by rowers using oars or sometimes sails. The word comes from the Spanish canoa, which was a term used by Christopher Columbus, borrowed from the Arawakan word canaoua, to describe the boats used by the native people of Haiti.
