FINAL FANTASY I :: RACES

PRONUNCIATION: broom
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: Unknown
NES NAME: Broom
ORIGINS NAME: Broom
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Broom
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Broom

    Living Brooms danced back and forth in the cave of Matoya the witch. Brought to life with her peculiar magic, the Brooms recited strange enchanted phrases to visitors as they swished around the cavern. Another enchanted Broom was known to belong to a witch in the mountain top town of Gaia, however it always tried to weasel its way out of its chores.

GAME INFO
    The Brooms in Matoya's Cave reveal the buttons to access the map screen depending on the version of the game played. In the original NES release of Final Fantasy I, they say "TCELES B HSUP", which when read backwards says "PUSH B SELECT" which opens the world map. In Final Fantasy Origins, the Brooms say "Elcric d'na, trats" which means "Start and Circle" backwards. In Dawn of Souls, the Brooms chant "Tceles Nottub B" which means "B Button Select". In the Anniversary Edition, the Brooms recite "Tceles Nottub Hsad" which means "Dash Button Select".
    Brooms are also encountered in:
     • Gaia
     • Labyrinth of Time (March of Souls, Specter Inspector)

NAME ORIGIN
    Brooms are commonly associated with witches, called "besom brooms". Witches were said to fly through the air on their brooms, and most artwork depicting witches has them mounted atop their enchanted brooms.
