NAME ORIGIN
A black widow is a venomous spider of the genus Latrodectus, notorious for the red hourglass shape on its abdomen. The name derives from the fact that the female of the species eats the male after mating.
In the original NES release, this monster was named Spider. A spider is an eight-legged, predatory arachnid of the genus Araneae. The word spider comes from the Proto Germanic word spenwanen, meaning "to spin" as in spinning a web.
