FINAL FANTASY II :: ITEMS :: KEY ITEMS

PRONUNCIATION: blak mask
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: 黒い仮面
ORIGINS NAME: Black Mask
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Black Mask
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Black Mask

The Black Mask was one of the two masks needed to obtain the Crystal Rod, which granted access to the Mysidian Tower. It was the counterpart to the White Mask, found in the lowest levels of Castle Fynn. The Black Mask was held on the Tropical Island, where it was the treasure of the primitive Tropical Islanders. A pack of wild Big Horns protected the Black Mask from falling into the hands of would-be treasure hunters.
After Firion and his friends fitted the White Mask upon the Goddess statue found in the underground Mysidia Passage, an insidious Doppelganger was raised in the Cave of Mysidia, blocking the path to the Crystal Rod. Firion and his friends traveled to the Tropical Island and secured the Mask, bringing it to the Cave, where they fitted it upon the Doppelganger. The Mask caused the Doppelganger and its defiled heart to fade, allowing the heroes to enter the Cave and search for the magical Crystal Rod.
