ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: Unknown
NES NAME: Black Orb
ORIGINS NAME: Black Crystal
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Black Crystal

The Black Crystal was an obsidian jewel that served as the gateway to the ancient Chaos Shrine. The Four Fiends were channeling the light of the Crystals into the ominous orb, sending their power back two thousand years to revive the evil knight Garland and create a never ending time loop. After defeating the Fiends, the Warriors of Light brought their Crystal shards to the Chaos Shrine and shone their light onto the Black Crystal, opening the time portal.

GAME INFO
The Black Crystal is found in the central chamber of the Chaos Shrine.

NAME ORIGIN
Black is the darkest color, at the extreme end of the grayscale opposite white. The word comes from the Old English blæc. A crystal is a clear, transparent mineral or glass resembling ice. The word comes from the Greek word krustallos meaning "ice".
All of the Crystals were called Orbs in the original NES release, thus the Black Crystal was named the Black Orb. An orb is a spherical object. The word comes from the Latin word orbis meaning "circle, disk, orbit".
