ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Arcane Labyrinth Northeast Quarter

The Arcane Labyrinth Northeast Quarter was a peculiar dungeon sealed by mysterious words located east of Salamand. Hollowed out of the mountains surrounding the Snow Plains, Firion and his friends explored this magical Labyrinth during their quest to destroy the evil Palamecian Empire. They uttered the key words they discovered throughout their journey to the mysterious light found in the Northeast Quarter. These words belonged to four distinct groups: life and nature, matter and materials, magic and spirits and finally, locations. The word chosen altered the composition of the next floor. At the entrance to the Northeast Quarter, mages studied and analyzed the mysterious seals and helped to suggest favorable words for Firion and his companions. After breaking the eight seals, and reaching the end of the Northeast Quarter, the heroes were confronted by the horrific demon, Beelzebub. Defeating the monstrous insect lit a flame on one of the three daises found in the central chamber of the Arcane Sanctuary, located at the confluence of the three Arcane Labyrinths.

GAME INFO
The Northeast Quarter contains eight dungeons and a battle against Beelzebub. The words chosen in each dungeon affect which weapon is received from Deumion after defeating Phrekyos in the Arcane Sanctuary.

NAME ORIGIN
Arcane means something that is known or understood by very few, something is secret, obscure, mysterious or esoteric. The word comes from the Latin word arcanus meaning "secret". A labyrinth is an intricate combination of paths or passages in which it is difficult to find one's way or to reach the exit. The original Labyrinth was a vast maze built on the island of Crete to house the monstrous Minotaur. The word is perhaps related to the Lydian labrys meaning "double-headed axe", a symbol of royal power, and the original Labyrinth may mean "palace of the double-headed axe". Northeast is a point on the compass midway between north and east. The word comes from a combination of the Old English norð and east. A quarter is one of the four equal or equivalent parts into which anything may be divided. The word comes from the Latin quartarius meaning "fourth".
