NAME ORIGIN
An anaconda is a non-poisonous boa snake from South America that can grow to a length of more than 25 feet. The name most likely derives from the Latinization of the Sinhalese word henacandaya meaning "whip snake".
In the original NES release, Anacondas were named Cobras. A cobra is a very different breed of snake. It is highly venomous and native to the Old World, particularly Africa. The name cobra comes from the Portuguese cobra de capello, meaning "snake with a hood". Interestingly, the enemy named Asp in the NES release was originally called Cobra in the Japanese release.
