The Altar of Fire was located deep underground within Mount Gulg, where the Fire Crystal rested. It was the spot where the Fire Crystal's power was focused. The Fiend of Fire, Marilith, dwelled at the Altar, draining the power from the Crystal. After the Warriors of Light defeated Marilith, they approached the Fire Crystal with their own crystal shards, restoring its light.

GAME INFO
The Altar of Fire is located on the 5th basement floor of Mount Gulg, behind where Marilith is fought.

NAME ORIGIN
An altar is an elevated structure at which religious rites are performed. Fire is the instance of combustion in which fuel or other material is ignited and, combined with oxygen, gives off light, heat and flame. It is one of the four classical elements present in the old world mythologies. The word comes from the Old English word fyr.
In the original NES release, the text accompanying the Altar of Fire sprite does not appear when the player approaches it. The text was present in the Japanese version however.
