FINAL FANTASY I :: TRANSPORTATION :: AIRSHIPS

PRONUNCIATION: AIR-ship
ORIGINAL JAPANESE NAME: ひくうせん
NES NAME: Airship
ORIGINS NAME: Airship
DAWN OF SOULS NAME: Airship
ANNIVERSARY EDITION NAME: Airship

    The Airship was an ancient flying machine built long ago by the Lufenian inventor Cid. After the Fiend of Wind, Tiamat, destroyed the Lufenian civilization 400 years ago, the Airship was buried beneath the sands of the Ryukahn Desert. The Warriors of Light, in their quest to restore the light of the Crystals, raised the Airship from beneath the desert with the use of the legendary Levistone. They would then use the Airship to travel to the northern continents to continue their journey.

GAME INFO
    The Airship is found buried beneath the Ryukahn Desert. It is necessary to acquire the Levistone from the Cavern of Ice to raise the Airship.
    The Airship moves four times faster than the normal speed of the player and is able to land on any patch of grass, but cannot land on forests, swamps, deserts or water. Random enemy encounters also do not occur while flying the Airship.

ADDITIONAL INFO
    The raising of the Airship from beneath the sands of the Ryukahn Desert was given its own cutscene in the enhanced remakes of the original.

NAME ORIGIN
    Airship is a combination of air and ship, indicating that it is a boat that can travel through the skies.
