NAME ORIGIN
Aegis was the name of the goatskin shield or breastplate of Zeus (also used by Athena and Apollo), featuring the head of the Gorgon, Medusa, at its center. The word comes from the Greek word aigis meaning "goatskin". A shield is a broad piece of armor, carried apart from the body as a defense against swords, lances, arrows and other weapons. The word comes from the Old English word scield.
