NAME ORIGIN
Adamant was a mythical metal found in many old world mythologies. The Greeks claimed that it was the only metal that could affect the gods, and Cronus used a sickle fashioned out of adamant to castrate his father Uranus. In Roman mythology, the underworld prison of Tartarus was sealed with columns of solid adamant. Loki of Norse mythology was said to have been bound by adamantine chains. The word comes from the Greek word adamas meaning "untameable". The suffix -ite added to the end of the word is used to denote the object as a rock or mineral.
